GET OFF YOUR PHONE!
Get Off Your Phone!
In this day and age, everyone is pretty much glued to their phones. From top end phones such as iPhone's to low end prepaid phones, people still find the need to keep it with them at all times. Without doubt, smartphones can be extremely productive and help with educational purposes, however, most students abuse their phones and use them to fool around at school. From checking Instagram on a daily basis, to playing games and watching youtube videos everywhere, students are absolutely addicted to their phones. The school board has taken notice on this issue, and although they have banned social media sites and many mobile games, students still manage to find ways around this or end up finding something else that is equally distracting.
Not only are phones extremely distracting, mobile smart phones can also destroy our precious relationships with friends, family and other peers. The same can be said about other electronic devices such as computers and gaming consoles. As humanity becomes more and more addicted to their electronic devices, it is only logical for them to use it more and more. Unfortunately, we only have 24 hours in a day, and although I wish that we had more, every minute is valuable. As we use our devices more, something is getting less and less time. If you guessed human communication, you are correct! As we get less interactions with each other, our relationships will get worse.
In conclusion, as the influence of technology gets bigger and bigger in our lives, humans will be forced into using it more and more. Those who get addicted to their mobile phones and computers will see a massive decline in social relationships and very likely see a regress in their academic performance.

Celebrities Behaving Badly
Celebrities behaving badly
Over the years, there have been a fair share of misbehaving celebrities.
From Charlie Sheen, to Chris Brown, and to Justin Bieber. These
a-list stars are almost more well known for their off-screen antics than they
are for their actual performing abilities. Their bad behavior has
delighted tabloid writers and shocked fans. Clearly, the fame and money has
gotten into the heads of these celebs, but why are fans still winning to put up
with all of this. Despite their conspicuous behavior, these big
name superstars still find ways to win the hearts of fan.
I think a key reason why many of these fans still love these misbehaving celebs is because they feel a "deep" connection with these celebrities. Much like a husband and wife, if one of them commit a crime, the other will still likely stick around for support. An example of this unconditional love can be seen with Justin Bieber. As we may already know, Justin Bieber has established a "bad boy" rep after multiple instances of driving while intoxicated, yelling and being disrespectful to paparazzi and even egging his neighbor. His fans could be what is called "die-hard" fans as they stick with him through this time of change.
Moreover, not only do these celebrities get the support of their fans despite having a poor public image, but some even get away with crimes. Despite breaking laws, these famous people end up with no consequences. Sure, mega stars like Justin Bieber easily pull in hundreds of millions of dollars everyear like money is falling from the sky, but that should not be a reason why celebrities get away with everyday crimes.
Just as our careers and social lives would be greatly affected if we broke the law, celebrities SHOULD also have the same consequences. They have special treatment and don't get consequences for their actions. However, celebrity culture has undoubtedly elevated to the point where celebrities are able the law and their actions void of consequences.
Safe Schools
Safe Schools
With recent developments such as the stabbing taking place at Durnbarton High School in Pickering, Ontario, an important, yet often ignored issue has arisen. Are schools really safe? How can we protect ourselves and those who we love. Additionally, how can schools and communities alike avoid these acts of violence?
We are well aware of many of the most common violence committed at school. An example of these dangerous school violences was on October 1, 2015. There was a mass shooting at Umpqua Community College killing 10 people, and injuring many more. Surprisingly, since then there were at least 79 reports of school lock-downs taking place in the United States.
Instead of focusing on instances of violence, it is important to make sure our schools are safe. Here at Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School, the school is relatively safe, however, it can NEVER BE TOO SAFE. Bullying is not visibly at the school, but is still an issue. With the age of technology, bullying has evolved. You know longer see people yelling and swinging fist at each others like the movies, but instead most of the bullying occurs online. You see kids posting reckless comments, and hurting others. Despite not being visible to the human eye, bullying is still an issue.
In conclusion, Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School is a very safe school. Bullying is not a big issue, neither is violence. However, the Mary Ward Community can form together to help those going through difficult times, and to stand up to bullies.

Of Course the Internet is Telling Me the Truth!
Does the internet lie to me!?
These days with everyone behind their electronic devices, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that a few of those people will fall for the online traps. There are many people out there, and some of them have twisted minds; things that we would not do, they would do. The internet takes advantage of this, and set up traps to catch them.
← Remember guys, YOU JUST WON A 1000 DOLLAR WALMART CARD.
Stuff like this trick people who aren't thinking straight. A good rule of thumb for internet users is that nothing is ever free. In real life if someone approached you and said something like "hey, Ill give you this $1000 gift card for free!" you probably will just ignore them and walk away.
Furthermore, the internet often create memes that people often fall for.
← what a meme!
At first glance, these equations look pretty legit. But once you look more carefully.......... I hope you see the problem. Aside from the obvious math problems, people actually believe stuff like this. To be honest, people should always be alert whenever using the internet, because it can become a tool that others use for earning the extra mula$$$.

Is money the answer?
Does it honestly look like ill pay?!?!
In case YouTube did not notice, I will definitely not pay even a nickel for an ad-free experience. Let me just get this out there..... there is something called ad-block and it will get the job done for free.
For those of you who do not know what ad-block is, you have been living under a rock. But for starters, Ad-block essentially does what it's title says it does.....to block ads.
In light of recent developments, YouTube have decided to charge a fee for an ad-free experience. You know those really annoying ads that show before the videos, yea those ads. Honestly, those ads aren't even that bad, but if you really cant live with it, there is always the option of using.......... you guessed it, AD-BLOCK.
To be honest, I will definitely not pay for an ad free youtube experience. You can save your money instead of spending it on useless junk like an ad free experience. Furthermore, some ads are bearable, and the option of ad-block is always available.
